Sofapaka vs Muhoroni Match Review

Sofapaka FC remain in the second place on the Kenyan Premier Log after an impressive 1 – 0 win against Muhoroni Youth FC in Machakos Stadium. The match was a third straight win against Muhoroni in this season, build up from a first leg win followed by a Gotv Shield match before today’s match.

The match started with both teams appearing more cautious, while attacks were limited to few sparks in the first half. The boys were well organized at the back, with Felly Mulumba and Eugine Asike reading Muhoroni’s moves with precision.

At the whistle of the first half, both sides went for the break on a barren draw with both sides looking like a possible winner.

The second half however, started on a much livelier note. Muhoroni was the first to threaten the boys, but the Sofapaka defence was to expectation. Soon, the attacks shifted to the Muhoroni goal. Cliff Miheso’s mobility and speedy dribbling skills were well utilized in the second half. Ekaliani Ndolo also appeared to have stepped up his game as he seemed to find his partnership with Maurice Odipo at the center. The boys seemed well organized with beautiful football on display, and a goal seemed to be very much in the reach of Sofapaka. On the 50th minute Head Coach Sam Timbe replaced Agwanda with Fiston. Fiston’s substitute was the missing charm for Sofapaka. Fiston immediately pounced on a volley in the box and shot straight on target. Muhoroni keeper did well to shield his goal, but the renounce could only go as far as into Miheso’s feet. Miheso shot low and powerful into the law right goal to put Sofapaka ahead on the 52nd minute.

The goal was a much welcome relief for the boys, as they now controlled the match more easily from goal to goal. 5 minutes later, the captain, John Baraza could have doubled the lead when he received a volley from Fiston but the ball went wide.

Shortly after, Miheso was rested for Njorege and Anthony Kimani brought in for Danson Kago. The substitutes did well to keep the visitors on their heels and limit any ideas of threatening attacks. Muhoroni came close to an equalizer on the 82 minutes from a dead ball, but goalkeeper Evariste Mutuyimana did well to keep the ball out of the net. The resulting corner was unfruitful.

The Captain again come close to grabbing a second when Njoroge floated a nice tempting ball, but the captains header when just inches wide.

At the whistle of the second half, the boys emerged top again against Muhoroni FC.

The win puts Sofapaka FC in a strong position for the contention of the KPL title. The boys remain second on the log with only a point shot of League Leaders Gormahia FC.
