Situma inspires Sofa to secure quarters slot

PDF E-mail

Captain James Situma once again led from the front, guiding Sofapaka to a 1 – 0 win over Nairobi City Stars in the GOtv Shield clash played on Sunday 22nd September at the City Stadium, a result that sees the team secure a place in the quarters.
The win, however did not come on a silver platter as City Stars, whom Sofapaka had earlier met, and beat twice gave a good account of themselves, at one point in the opening half hitting the crossbar from a free kick as they went in search of an opener.
Sofapaka missed a host of chances, a key one, a header by Mustafa Kasolo in the first half which City Stars keeper Fred Majani stretched well to keep out. The keeper was alert to Yusuf Juma’s curling free kick too to smother it as he attempted to hit the net from the angle.
With the match seemingly headed to post match penalties, a series of passes opened up the City Stars defence and Situma drew the keeper to one side before firing low at the far post for the all important goal in the 88th minute.
City Stars had shouts of a penalty waved away in the 90th minute which saw them head to the changing rooms in protest as Sofapaka now shift attention to the match against Finlays in the next stage, set for October 9th.
