Sofapaka recovered from the early goal conceded at Bukhungu to rally for a second half double which ensured they claw their way above Tusker on the standings after beating Western Stima 2 – 1 in what is also their first ever win at the stadium.
Stima were the liveliest side at the start going ahead in the eighth minute through speedy forward Wesley Kemboi who connected well with a beautiful cross from Dave Otieno’s cross to beat an advancing David Okello in the Sofapaka goal.
Down at the break
Sustained pressure from Sofapaka didn’t pay off as they tried hard to get the equalizer and had to go into the break a goal down.
The 2009 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions however, upped the ante in the second half and their efforts paid off in the 67th minute when a James Situma free kick hit the bar and veteran striker John Baraza reacted fastest to score from the rebound.
Delightful second
Sofapaka were at it again five minutes later when John Baraza was fouled outside the box on the left flank by Jackson Saleh for Abdalla Juma to score the second delightfully from the resultant free kick.
The result means Sofapaka go top with 14 points at least until AFC Leopards’ game against Gor Mahia in Nairobi ends.
